FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – Carroll High School graduate Jake Shirk will begin his professional baseball career with the Pirates organization, as the right-handed pitcher was drafted by Pittsburgh in the 18th round (534th overall pick) of the 2024 MLB Draft.

A six-foot-two, 200-pounder, Shirk went 4-4 with a 6.81 ERA this past season as a senior at Wright State. He led the team with 78.2 innings pitched and 64 strikeouts.

Shirk was an All-Horizon League First Team selection in 2023, and a Second Team pick in 2022.
