PITTSBURGH (WKBN) – The Pittsburgh Pirates have released pitcher Domingo German from his minor league deal.

The right-hander opted out of the minor league deal that he signed prior to the season.

German, a former pitcher with the New York Yankees, started ten games at Triple-A Indianapolis this season. He posted a record of 4-4 with a 5.36 ERA for the Pirates affiliate.

According to insider Robert Murray, the Pirates are open to potentially bringing him back on a new minor league deal.

German famously pitched the 24th perfect game in Major League history on June 28, 2023, in an 11-0 win over the Oakland Athletics.

Last season, he posted a record of 5-7 with a 4.56 ERA.

German has battled off-the-field issues during his career. He was placed on administrative leave in 2019 after he reportedly assaulted his girlfriend at a charity event. He was later suspended for 81 games in the 2020 season.

In 2021, he was suspended for 10 games after failing a foreign substance inspection.

Last August, the Yankees placed him on the restricted list so that he could undergo treatment for alcohol abuse.
