Will Steelers look to add to depleted WR group in training camp? Omar Khan provides update

There is no position on the Pittsburgh Steelers ' roster that needs more help than wide receiver, which has several question marks behind the top spot on the depth chart as the Steelers begin training camp.

The Steelers are set with George Pickens as the No. 1, but questions are abound after that. Competing for significant roles are Van Jefferson, Calvin Austin and Quez Watkins, among others, and all bring their own concerns. Then there is rookie Roman Wilson, who has a ton of upside but is unproven.

As Steelers fans wait to see the team bring in some semblance of an upgrade to the group, they might not want to hold their breath for one. After practice on Thursday, general manager Omar Khan revealed there is nothing new going on in terms of adding to the position via trade.

He added that he is actually excited about the wide receivers room, a view Steelers fans certainly do not share.

"If there's ever an opportunity to upgrade, regardless of the receiver room, whatever the room is, we're going to look at it," Khan said . "You guys have heard me say that before, but I feel good about the room we have right now. We have a lot of talented players in there, guys that contribute, guys that can do different things. The room, for me, I'm excited about it. I'm excited to see these guys work, and it's Day 1."

As you'd expect, the pickings are slim in free agency at this late stage in the offseason and none of the available players would provide a massive boost, although even a small one would be welcomed at this point.

That leaves the trade market as the best route to bring in the biggest upgrade. But based on Khan's comments and a quiet rumor mill, it doesn't look like the Steelers are close to acquiring the receiver they need, which is also terrible news for the quarterbacks.
