Pirates surprisingly land Marlins star in proposed blockbuster trade by insider

There's been minimal chatter surrounding the Pittsburgh Pirates as deadline moves are concerned, which is odd for a team just one game back in the National League Wild Card race.

If Pittsburgh can pull off a pivotal deal between now and July 30, the Pirates have every reason to believe that they can make the playoffs and do some damage once there.

On Thursday, The Athletic's Jim Bowden proposed a blockbuster trade that would send Jazz Chisholm of the Miami Marlins to Pittsburgh in exchange for right-handed pitcher Braxton Ashcraft and outfielder Henry Davis. In Davis, the Marlins would be receiving a former No. 1 overall pick (2021 draft) who at 24 years old still has time to develop into the player many expected him to be.

In Chisholm, Pittsburgh would be getting a bona fide star with five-tool talent.

"Chisholm would bring his combination of power and speed to a Pirates lineup that ranks in the bottom third in baseball in runs scored, though they’ve shot up to 10th over the past 30 days," Bowden said.

"The 26-year-old is under team control through 2026, which solves center field for the Pirates for the foreseeable future. Chisholm would be a good fit with Pittsburgh because veteran leader Andrew McCutchen could take him under his wing and help him develop into a true professional. If I’m the Pirates, I’m putting Chisholm’s locker next to McCutchen’s from day one."

Chisholm has been on the wish list of many teams all summer, and the Pirates would shock the league if they were able to swoop in and pull off a deal for the All-Star outfielder.

Chisholm would add star power to a roster that already features Paul Skenes, creating a ton of buzz at PNC Park now and into the foreseeable future.
