George Pickens enters the season as the number one wide receiver on the Pittsburgh Steelers.

This season, he will be relied upon as the team’s top receiving target.

He has not gotten off to a great start as he had a heated exchange with Steelers wide receiver coach Zach Azzanni at training camp.

Pickens was visibly upset and fellow receivers needed to calm him down.

Below, we discuss if the Steelers will offer Pickens a second contract or if he is going to be the next man out the door.

Is George Pickens A Long-Term Solution For The Steelers?

The Steelers are thin at WR.

They need George Pickens to have a big year and be their star wideout.

He has shown flashes of having the talent to be a top wideout in the league.

However, his attitude makes it risky for the Steelers to give him a big contract and sign him to a long-term deal.

Last year, he had a bad attitude towards the media and on the field.

The Steelers usually have a long leash on very talented players (Antonio Brown) but Pickens may be on the Steelers’ last nerve.

His attitude hurts the team and the wide receiver room.

He has not proven to be a top wideout in the league yet, making his bad attitude a worse situation for the team.

The Steelers are shifting their way of doing things.

Diontae Johnson was traded in the offseason for a poor attitude and lack of effort on the field.

Pittsburgh will not put up with Pickens’ shenanigans for much longer.

He is proving he is not to be trusted to offer a second contract.

The Steelers will not view him as a long-term solution if his play does not take a big leap this year and if his attitude does not improve.

Pickens is in the best spot to succeed but the reports out of training camp are not promising.

He will be the focal point of the Steelers’ passing attack but if his antics keep up, he could see himself being benched for a poor attitude during the season.

Pickens was already in danger last year of being benched or facing a penalty from the team for a poor attitude.

If he does not change his attitude and if his play does not live up to the enormous potential he has, the Steelers will view Pickens as a risk and not offer him a second contract and let him walk.
