UPDATE: Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Roman Wilson has reportedly avoided a serious injury, according to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler , who notes that Wilson is "week-to-week."

Per NFL Network's Ian Rapoport , Wilson's injury is classified as an ankle sprain and "the belief is he'll be ready to start the season."

While it's never ideal for a young player to miss significant time in his first training camp, this certainly beats the alternative.

The Pittsburgh Steelers took part in their first padded practice of training camp on Tuesday and rookie wide receiver Roman Wilson suffered an injury during the session.

According to video from beat writers, the Steelers had to bring out the cart for Wilson after he was injured on a jet sweep during seven shots. He was taken off on the cart after initially spending some time on the sideline.

After practice, head coach Mike Tomlin revealed that Wilson is dealing with an ankle injury, although the severity remains unknown as the rookie undergoes tests, according to ESPN's Brooke Pryor .

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports that Wilson was in "considerable pain" after suffering the injury.

While the cart being brought out has historically been a terrible sign, we've seen teams bring it out for injuries that aren't serious, so it doesn't automatically mean Wilson has something severe.

Nevertheless, this remains a situation to monitor, as the Steelers are already thin at the wide receiver position, with questionable options like Van Jefferson, Quez Watskins and Calvin Austin all vying for significant roles.

Wilson has been standing out at training camp thus far and looks primed to have a big role in his first season. Hopefully he doesn't have to miss significant time and will be back out there sooner rather than later.
