Who says the Pittsburgh Steelers need to trade for another receiver?

During the team’s padded practice on Tuesday, wideout George Pickens made a spectacular one-handed touchdown catch on a fade route in the end zone.

After the Steelers traded Diontae Johnson to the Carolina Panthers before the 2024 NFL Draft, Pickens became the team’s default No. 1 wideout, and there’s plenty of pressure on him to carry the load of a Pittsburgh WR corps that — on paper — doesn’t look too impressive.

Aside from Pickens, the Steelers depth chart reads as a who’s who of question marks. Van Jefferson, Scotty Miller, Quez Watkins, Calvin Austin III and rookie Roman Wilson are all battling for playing time behind Pickens, who logged 63 receptions, 1,140 yards and five touchdowns last season.

Pickens made plenty of catches like the one he made on Tuesday during his first two NFL seasons. The 23-year-old has been an early standout at camp. During the team’s first training camp practice last week, Pickens made a strong play on a slant route, breaking free from a defender before marching to the end zone.

During Pittsburgh’s next practice, he made a stunning catch while leaping over two Steelers defenders for a deep pass downfield en route to another touchdown.
