The Pittsburgh Steelers have a QB1 battle at the moment between Russell Wilson and Justin Fields, but it appears the former Chicago Bears signal-caller is taking advantage.

Wilson, who signed with the organization in the offseason after a tumultuous spell with the Denver Broncos, has yet to practice in full at training camp due to a lingering calf injury, per Pro Football Talk.

Wilson tweaked his calf while doing conditioning drills last week and ultimately missed a few practices. He didn't return until Tuesday. Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin made it clear on Wednesday that Fields himself has shown very well as he continues to get more first-team reps, but it's still very unclear who the starter will be come Week 1.

The 35-year-old Russell Wilson improved in 2023 with a 66.4 completion percentage and 26 touchdowns against just eight interceptions, but it wasn't enough for the Broncos to keep him around as they released him in early March.

Just 11 days later, he signed a minimum deal with Pittsburgh. The Steelers face the Atlanta Falcons in Week 1.
