The Steelers drafted Darnell Washington in the third round of the 2023 draft. He was drafted mainly for his blocking ability but also with the hopes that he would be a solid backup to Pat Frieirmuth. Washington played around half of the Steelers' offensive snaps this season and even got the chance to be the team's starter when Frieirmuth suffered an injury.
Even then, Washington did almost nothing in the pass-catching aspect, as he did not have a single game with more than one catch. This could be partly to blame for the Steelers' offensive struggles last season, but it could also fall on Washington’s skillset. There are also early reports that Frieirmuth is looking good this offseason, which would even more limit Washington’s opportunities.
He should not be drafted in any form of redraft league. However, in a Tight End Premium Dynasty league, he could be an interesting late-round pick to watch, at least until the season starts.
