Chelsea State Bank Expanding to Jackson

Man crushed to death at Jackson factory
JACKSON COUNTY, MI – A Jackson man is dead after a heavy die cast being moved broke free and fell on him. The die setter, 36, was using a crane to lift the heavy cast at 8:02 a.m. Monday, July 15, at Dexter Stamping, 1013 Thorrez Road, in Sandstone Township when the swivel bolt holding the die broke loose, according to the Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Administration.
Man charged with deaths of couple hit by SUV after Sylvania concert
Bond was set at $310,000 during arraignment Monday of a Fulton County man charged for the deaths of a Swanton couple who were struck by an SUV as they left a concert at Centennial Terrace on Saturday night. Donald Christian, 54, of Lyons, Ohio is charged in Sylvania Municipal Court with two counts of aggravated vehicular homicide and one count of operating under the influence of alcohol or drugs in the crash reported at 10:56 p.m. on Centennial Road just south of Erie Street in Sylvania. His next court date was scheduled for July 24 following the video arraignment before Magistrate Christy Cole. Donald J. Fern, 78, and Therese Fern, 66, both died after being taken to ProMedica Toledo Hospital following the crash. Mr. Christian was arrested at the scene and booked into the Lucas County jail. Sylvania Police Chief Danilynn Miller said Monday that the Ferns and Mr. Christian all had attended the concert Saturday evening at Centennial Terrace. The pedestrian deaths were Sylvania’s first since 2013, the chief said.

Chargers earn NABC Team Academic honors for sixth straight season; three make Honors Court

That fact was proven once again on Thursday, July 21 as the Chargers were one of over 360 programs across all divisions of collegiate men's basketball to receive the NABC Team Academic Award, its sixth season receiving the honor, while also putting three players on the NABC Honors Court for 2023-24.

Bryan Fire Chief Guest Speaker Of Kiwanis Club
BRYAN CHIEF … The guest speaker at the July 10, 2024 meeting was City of Bryan Fire Chief Doug Pool. Chief Pool spoke about his personal life history and his experiences that led to a career in firefighting. A native of Bryan, Chief Pool graduated from Bryan High School in 1982. Following a stint in the military, Chief Pool first volunteered for the fire department in 1995 and became a full-time firefighter shortly thereafter. He was promoted to captain and became the Assistant Fire Chief in 2006. He succeeded Chief Bruce Sider on 12/31/2021 and notes that he is very proud of his department.
