Montpelier's Smeltzer brothers finish atop divisions at LJGA event
LIMA — Brothers Kenneth and Malachi Smeltzer were the best in their respective divisions in Tuesday’s Gray’s Cappie Sportswear Open at Springbrook Golf Club in Lima. The Smeltzers won the boys 16-18 and 14-15 divisions to highlight a strong showing for Montpelier’s trio in the Lima Junior Golf Association event.
Swinging in Fremont
Warm sunny skies and a muggy Friday and Saturday night greeted attendees of Fremont Music Fest. On Saturday a large crowd gathered for the annual parade, which once again brought honors for Swager Communications and also to Cardinal Glass. The music started at noon and went through the night with a fireworks show to close out the annual event, which is 29 years strong in Fremont.

Summer Reading Program Finale: foam tent, face painting, and more!

The Manchester District Library will host a finale event to celebrate the end of the 2024 Summer Reading Program on Friday, July 19, in the City Room at 912 City Rd. From 3pm to 5pm, enjoy games, face painting, craft projects, a foam tent, and more. There will also be raffle prize drawings and gifts for those who completed the program. Be sure to submit reading logs/entry cards by 3pm to be eligible for the drawings.

Original song 'Through All These Years' celebrates Tecumseh's bicentennial
TECUMSEH — This weekend offers new opportunities to hear a song written for Tecumseh's bicentennial. "Through All These Years," written by Phil Devaney, had its premiere May 5 with the Tecumseh Pops Orchestra and Community Chorus. The chorus will perform it again at the "WTCA Radio Show" Sunday, July 21. There are two shows, at 3 and 7 p.m., at the Tecumseh Center for the Arts, 400 N. Maumee St. Tickets are free but need to be reserved in advance online at thetca.org, by calling 517-423-6617 or by visiting the box office, which is open from noon to 5 p.m. Thursday and Friday and one hour before the showtimes.

LANSING, Mich. (WILX) - Today is a First Alert Weather Day. Strong to severe thunderstorms are possible across Mid-Michigan 10 P.M. tonight until around 3 A.M. Tuesday. Any thunderstorms could produce damaging winds and heavy rainfall. Heavy rainfall brings flood concerns to the area. A Flood Watch has already been issued for the Lansing and Jackson areas. Severe weather is especially dangerous during the overnight hours. I remember Jackson's “Progress Place” vividly. Boy, how I remember. It was considered by a majority of residents to be the worst thing that ever happened to downtown Jackson. Literally, ever. When they were finished building this in 1964, I remember having to walk way too far (I thought) to get to my favorite downtown places – like Woolworth's, the Capitol Theater, and the shoe shop.

Adrian police arrest pastor for alleged criminal sexual conduct
ADRIAN, Mich. (WILX) - A pastor in Lenawee County was arraigned in court Monday on two counts of alleged Criminal Sexual Conduct. Adrian police said 75-year-old Pastor Michael Ronald Goble was arraigned on charges of Criminal Sexual Conduct in the Second Degree.
