When teaching peace, ‘You gotta walk the walk, not just talk the talk
Just as it is with teaching any value, parents and educators teach peace by modeling it as well as by talking about it. “Many clichés are true, and one of them is, ‘You gotta walk the walk, not just talk the talk,’” said Robin McCormick, director of development and member of the admissions and communications teams at St. Francis Xavier School in Winooski and mother of seven ranging in age from 24 to 43. “You can’t scream at kids and then be surprised when they scream at others. … You can’t refuse to apologize when you’ve made a mistake and then be surprised when a child never shows contrition for bad behavior. Telling kids what is right is good. Showing kids what is right is better.”

Vermonters with flood-damaged homes face tough recovery process: 'We have a lot of work ahead of us'

Bazini’s stunner sends VGFC into Round of 32
BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) - Yaniv Bazini broke a scoreless tie with a dramatic 93rd minute winner Tuesday night at Virtue Field to send Vermont Green by Reading United and into the USL2 round of 32. The game was delayed about half an hour after storms rolled through the area, and the continued downpour seemed to have an affect on the game. Vermont missed a couple solid chances with Jaheim Wickham called upon to make one tough save before the break. After a couple crucial Kieran Brown stops for the visitors to keep this game on level terms, Reading seized the initiative. Wickham recovered in dramatic fashion to prevent a potential howler before pawing away another targeted strike. The match seemed destined for extra time, but in the third minute of four in added time, Nathan Simeon whipped a cross into the box, and Bazini headed home the winner to send the packed house at Virtue into frenzy. “Well, I know the whole game that I needed to win my battle, and it just will be this one time that I’ll get the ball on the head,” Bazini said after the match. “And this was the one, so I’m happy I put it in!” It was a great birthday gift for the UVM star and VGFC’s all-time leading scorer. “Not only for me, also for these fans!” he said. “That’s amazing, to celebrate a birthday like that, to score, to go to the next round.” Up next for Vermont, a trip to Ocean City, New Jersey looms. VGFC will face a familiar foe, as they take on the Long Island Rough Riders at 5 p.m. Friday. Long Island downed VGFC in the round of 16 of the USL2 playoffs in 2022.
