3 Chinese Nationals plead ‘not guilty’ to marijuana charges
On July 11, three Chinese Nationals charged with illegal marijuana cultivation pled not guilty in Lincoln County Unified Criminal Court during individual arraignment hearings. In January, Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office led six raids in Whitefield and Chelsea leading to the arrest of seven Chinese Nationals and the issuing of a summons to another person, in connection with alleged illegal marijuana growing cultivation operations. On Jan. 10, Lincoln County Sheriff’s Department, Maine Office of Cannabis Policy and Department of Homeland Security executed three search warrants in Whitefield and Jefferson.
Gun groups say Maine's new waiting period law will crater gun show attendance
Business was brisk at the last gun show before a new Maine law takes effect that establishes a three-day waiting period for most firearm purchases. Anthony Wayne Brann, 77, passed away July 13, 2024 at his home in Whitefield. He was born on June 14, 1947, a son of Harriet (Ripley) and Maurice J. Brann Sr. Anthony, known to all as Wayne, grew up in Whitefield and graduated from Erskine Academy in the class of 1965. Following school, he enlisted in the Army National Guard and proudly served his country. On Sept. 6, 1969, Wayne married Carol E. Williams and the two settled in Whitefield raising two daughters, Shelley and Valerie.

Last weekend I made a whopper when clicking for an online reservation. My husband and I were meeting friends for dinner at the Water Street Kitchen and Bar in Wiscasset, Maine. I said I'd make reservations. I Googled the restaurant on my phone. It popped right up, or so I thought. I reserved a table for four at 6 p.m. I was sort of shocked that all times between 5 and 7 p.m. were available, but figured that it being a week ahead was the reason.
