3 Chinese Nationals plead ‘not guilty’ to marijuana charges
On July 11, three Chinese Nationals charged with illegal marijuana cultivation pled not guilty in Lincoln County Unified Criminal Court during individual arraignment hearings. In January, Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office led six raids in Whitefield and Chelsea leading to the arrest of seven Chinese Nationals and the issuing of a summons to another person, in connection with alleged illegal marijuana growing cultivation operations. On Jan. 10, Lincoln County Sheriff’s Department, Maine Office of Cannabis Policy and Department of Homeland Security executed three search warrants in Whitefield and Jefferson.
Longtime Downtown Waterville Store Slated to Close Later This Month
For the last decade or so, many Central Maine residents have become familiar with the Re-Store. It's indeed a store, operated by Waterville Area Habitat for Humanity. Since its inception, the store has sold various pre-loved home-goods and building materials to the general public. The store, which has served the community well in its mission to provide affordable alternatives to brand-new (more expensive) merchandise, will be closing its doors later this month, the Kennebec Journal reported.
Gun groups say Maine's new waiting period law will crater gun show attendance
Business was brisk at the last gun show before a new Maine law takes effect that establishes a three-day waiting period for most firearm purchases. It's a requirement that opponents say will sap attendance and potentially end such events, which is why the two-day show at the Elks Lodge in Augusta also doubled as a fundraiser for a pending legal challenge to the new law.

WARREN — Julieanne R. Hyatt, 82, died peacefully at home, surrounded by her loving family, Thursday, July 4, 2024, following a courageous battle with cancer. Hubley, and Mildred H. (Cunningham) Hubley. At an early age, David was fortunate to be raised by Gussie and Peter Storkson, of Whitefield, and later adopted into the Storkson family.
