Pittston Area scored five runs in each of the first two innings, then put up seven more to finish off Carbino Club/Archbald 17-0 in three innings Thursday night in the Section 5 Major Little League Softball winners’ bracket final at North Pocono.

The team has followed up an unbeaten run through the District 16 Tournament with two more victories in sectional play.

Those wins gave Pittston Area two shots at beating Back Mountain for the section title and a berth in state play. The first of those shots came Saturday night in a game that was scheduled to be played after deadline for this edition.

If Back Mountain extended the tournament with a victory, the teams would play a deciding game Sunday at North Pocono.

Payge Pesotini drove in three runs to lead Thursday’s victory. She was 1-for-1 with a double, a walk and two runs scored.

Seven teammates added a single each.

Ainsley Lear scored three times and drove in two runs.

Lydia Luvender, who scored twice, and Natalie McAndrew also drove in two runs.

    Izzie Kroski scored twice.

Ava Thomas pitched the first two innings and Lear worked a scoreless third, each striking out one.

Pittston Area 4, North Pocono 3

Pittston Area rallied from three runs down to defeat host North Pocono in Wednesday’s opening round.

North Pocono led 3-0 until Pittston Area scored one run in the bottom of the fourth and three more in the fifth.

Liv Distasio’s sacrifice fly tied the score.

Sara Basile scored on the play while Danielle Budzak moved up to third where she was able to score on a pitch to the next batter.

Sophia Laudato’s single scored winning pitcher Ava Thomas with the first run of the inning.

Lydia Luvender’s one-out double scored Giovanna Bobbouine, who had led off the fourth with a walk.

Luvender finished 2-for-2 and was the only player in the game with more than one hit.

Thomas struck out eight and walked three in a four-hitter.

    DISTRICT 16 8-10-YEAR-OLDS

Pittston Area, which won its first two games by a total of 36-8 in nine innings, returns to action Sunday at 4 at Northwest to face Mountain Top in the District 16 championship game.
