    Greater Pittston was unable to keep pace with or later catch up to Stripes & Strikes in the Wyoming Valley Senior American Legion Baseball League, but it did end the regular season with a breakthrough.

    Luke Leventhall and Paul Rusincovitch handled the pitching while Nic Borgia and Dominic Donati provided the clutch hits Friday as Greater Pittston spoiled a perfect season by Stripes & Strikes with a 6-3, road victory.

    Leventhall limited the Hazleton-based team to one run and one hit in the first three innings. Rusincovitch then worked the final four innings in relief, allowing just four base runners.

    Borgia and Donati each came up with two-run doubles with two outs.

    Zander Condeelis, Rich Tonte, Borgia and Donati all had two hits.

    Greater Pittston finished 12-5, second to Stripes & Strikes (14-1) in the East Division.

    After five games in the final six days of the regular season, Greater Pittston is off until Thursday when it opens the playoffs by hosting the winner of a game between Nanticoke and Wilkes-Barre/Plains at 5:30.

    Greater Pittston needs a win Thursday to make it to the league’s Final Four. The top three teams in the league advance to regional play.

    Back Mountain 10, Greater Pittston 2

    West Division champion Back Mountain won at Greater Pittston Wednesday.

    Zander Condeelis, Rich Tonte, Luke Leventhall, Nic Borgia and Michael Wassell had hits in the loss.

    Stripes & Strikes 7, Greater Pittston 4

    Stripes & Strikes clinched the division title by scoring five runs, four of them unearned, in the top of the seventh inning Tuesday at Greater Pittston.

    Greater Pittston starting pitcher Thomas Carlin held Stripes & Strikes to two runs on four hits in 5 2/3 innings.

    Vinnie Bonomo, Condeelis, Leventhall, Borgia and Robbie Yatsko had the hits for Greater Pittston.

    Back Mountain 5, Greater Pittston 4

    Back Mountain walked off with a win in the bottom of the seventh Monday.

    Luke Leventhall, who started and worked the first two innings, and Paul Rusincovitch, who threw the remainder of the game in relief, each allowed only one earned run in the loss.

    Rich Tonte had three hits and Vinnie Bonomo scored twice.

    Greater Pittston 16, Nanticoke 5

    Greater Pittston was scheduled for a doubleheader with Nanticoke June 30, but needed just five innings to record a sweep.

    After scoring 14 first-inning runs on the way to the 10-run victory, Greater Pittston picked up a 7-0 forfeit in the other game.

    The entire starting lineup scored in the first inning.

    Chase Speicher had three of Greater Pittston’s 15 hits. Zander Condeelis, Rich Tonte and Robbie Yatsko added two each.
