City of Pittston to unveil three new art pieces July 27

PITTSTON – The City continues to add art to the Downtown and surrounding neighborhoods with over 30 pieces acquired to date. Three more pieces will be added to the collection with an unveiling to be held on Saturday, July27.

The Downtown Pittston Partnership in conjunction with the City of Pittston will be formally unveil the three new pieces of public art beginning at 5:00 p.m. Mayor Michael Lombardo will welcome each piece of art into the city along with the artists, who will have the opportunity to speak about their pieces.

“Art is an integral part of the City of Pittston,” Mayor Michael Lombardo said. “We believe art brings people together and we continue to strive to be an art-centric community supporting and highlighting local artists and their talents.”

The tree pieces are the larger than life mural, “Balancing the Past and Present” by Joel Carson Jones, a metal sculpture “The Truth” by Scott Nichols and “The Totem” by Ray Good.

The unveilings will be accompanied by a cocktail reception at the Pittston Memorial Library, followed by live outdoor music by the Luongo Brothers at the Slope Amphitheater beginning at 7:00 p.m.

“We get so many compliments on our public art pieces on a regular basis,” Mary Kroptavich, Pittston’s Main Street manager, said. “I absolutely love when I walk out of my office and see visitors looking at our murals or taking pictures of our sculptures. That’s why they’re there – to be appreciated.”

The first unveiling will take place at 5:00 p.m. at 81 South Main Street in Downtown Pittston.
