PITTSTON, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU)— A second alarm fire damaged a home in Luzerne County Saturday afternoon.

According to Chief Frank Roman of the Pittston Fire Department, crews were called to the 100 block of Butler Street for a working second alarm fire just before 1:30 p.m.

Officials say that the fire started somewhere else in the house, but then traveled to the attic where it smoldered for several hours.

When crews arrived on scene, the upper right side of the home was fully engulfed and burnt right through the roof.

Roman says there is heavy damage to the 2nd floor and the attic area making the home unlivable for the short term.

Remodeling to the home’s attic made the fire hard to battle because of dividers in the attic that allowed the fire to continue to burn according to Roman.

There were no injuries and several people are displaced at this time according to authorities.

Authorities say seven total departments responded to the scene.

The cause of the fire will be investigated by Pittston Fire Department.
