NEW JERSEY (PIX11)—If you are not going anywhere for this Memorial Day weekend or staying in the tri-state area, you are not alone.

But there is so much you can do, even if it is something simple, such as going to your local park and enjoying the fact that it may not be as crowded.

List: Memorial Day parades happening in NYC

This weekend is the unofficial start to summer. The weather is going to be amazing, so you will definitely be able to make the most of It.

Even though thousands of people are hitting the road or getting on a plane this Memorial Day weekend, there are many others that are keeping it local.

“In Hoboken, the good vibe was contagious Friday evening on Washington Street,” Said Mike Khoury of the Madd Hatter Hoboken.

There are plenty of activities across the Garden State for this holiday weekend. In Hackettstown, there is a Memorial Madness car show with hundreds of vintage Vehicles.

And down at the Jersey Shore, foodies can enjoy a delicious food festival at Monmouth Park. Talking about the shore, let’s not forget the beaches.

“This weekend is going to be spectacular, and because we had such a cold radio my winter, it’s going to be crazy,” stated Debbie Delisa from the Wonder Bar.

Residents say they love that there aren’t many people around, so they can really take advantage and do things they like, such as going to the gym.

“Absolutely, me, my guy, and I work out together; we will go,” said Justin.

Going to New York City is also a good idea, especially if, in addition to Memorial Day weekend, you have another major reason to celebrate.

“I just graduated law school, so I am going to NYC and going to celebrate and see a comedy show,” said Marissa Catalano, who just graduated from Law school

Of course, different parades are taking place on Monday across the tri-state to honor our fallen heroes—those who have paid the ultimate sacrifice fighting for the U.S.
