Bronx man accused of raping woman after asking her for directions

MOTT HAVEN, the Bronx (PIX11) — A man is accused of raping a woman after asking her for directions on a Bronx street last week, police said.

Papa Diop, 38, was arrested Saturday and charged with rape in the first degree in connection to the Aug. 5 attack, according to the NYPD.

Diop allegedly raped the 35-year-old woman after stopping her and asking her for directions near Bergen Avenue and East 149th Street in Mott Haven around 1 a.m., police said. The victim was taken to the hospital for treatment.

Diop allegedly ran off after the incident before he was apprehended over the weekend, police said.

Diop pleaded not guilty during his arraignment on Sunday, according to court records. His attorney could not immediately be reached Monday.
