    Man accused of stabbing neighbor to death on Brooklyn street

    FLATLANDS, Brooklyn (PIX11) — A Brooklyn man is accused of stabbing his neighbor to death in the neck after previously harassing the victim, authorities said Tuesday.

    Shakel Maldonado, 24, was charged with murder after allegedly killing Nathaniel Thomas, 45, on a Brooklyn street on Aug. 7, according to the criminal complaint.

    The suspect was caught on surveillance video allegedly stabbing Thomas multiple times in the head, back of the neck, and abdomen at the corner of Avenue K and East 53rd Street in Flatlands at around 8 a.m., prosecutors said. The victim was rushed to the hospital and died from one of the puncture wounds.

    Police said Maldonado and Thomas lived in the same home in Flatlands. The victim previously filed a harassment complaint with police against the suspect, prosecutors said.

    Maldonado was arrested Saturday and was additionally charged with criminal possession of a weapon, according to the complaint.

    Accoridng to the latest NYPD data, the fatal stabbing is the first murder reported in this Brooklyn area this year. Meanwhile, murder is down 10% citywide through Aug. 4 compared to the same time last year.
