    City officials demand action against illegal weed shops in New York City

    NEW YORK (PIX11) — Politicians and activists are demanding the city, state, and feds, step up enforcement to close illegal weed shops across the city.

    They held a press conference in Murray Hill, applauding the city’s operation padlock for closing 800 illegal weed shops over the last 3 and a half months.

    The trouble is, they estimate 2,000 more are still open for business.

    The feelings are backed by everyday New Yorkers dealing with these shops in their neighborhoods.

    City leaders want increased funding, manpower, penalties, and whatever it takes to finish the job and they call on residents to continue doing their part as well.
