UPPER EAST SIDE, Manhattan (PIX11) — A homeless man is held without bail for the attempted rape of a 19-year-old girl on the Upper East Side over the weekend.

Quincy Burns, 30, was arraigned Tuesday afternoon on charges of attempted rape, sex abuse and forcible touching. The judge ordered Burns to be remanded after saying he was a potential flight risk and noting he has a prior criminal record in Detroit that includes assault and sexual assault.

Prosecutors say there is surveillance video that shows the victim walking out of Carl Schurz Park around 1 a.m. Saturday. Burns is seen following closely behind. Burns then allegedly pushed the victim to the ground and groped her on East 90th Street and East End Avenue.

Doorman Hector Mateo heard the victim screaming for help that night and raced out with a flashlight to help her.

On Tuesday night, Mateo told PIX11 News he was glad police arrested the suspect so quickly but added that “those images still haunt me, just to see her on the floor, with blood on her shirt.”

The Assistant District Attorney said in court that Burns was seen nine hours after the attack entering a Public Storage unit on East 92nd Street near the crime scene to change the clothes he was wearing during the attempted rape. Police say while Burns is homeless, the storage unit is registered to him.

Burns’ public defender argued that Burns was not seen on surveillance video attacking the teen and that he had not yet been picked and identified by the victim or witnesses in a lineup.

The next court date is Friday.
