Mom, 10-year-old son found dead in Bronx NYCHA apartment: NYPD

THE BRONX, N.Y. (PIX11) — A mother and her 10-year-old son were found dead in their NYCHA apartment in the Bronx on Wednesday night, police said.

Authorities found Sharlene Santiago, 39, and her son, Brian, in the apartment in the Marble Hill Houses near 5240 Broadway and West 288th Street around 11:30 p.m., according to the NYPD.

It’s unclear how long they had been dead. Their bodies were found decomposing, police sources said.

The mother was the only caregiver of her son, who was confined to a bed, according to police sources.

It appears the mother died first from a medical episode, and the son may have died of starvation, according to the Daily News.

The medical examiner will determine the cause of death, police said.
