NEW YORK (PIX11) — The office of New York City Mayor Eric Adams said he will cooperate with federal subpoenas he’s received.

“As a former member of law enforcement, the mayor has been clear over the last nine months that he will cooperate with any investigation underway,” said Deputy Mayor for Communications Fabian Levy. “Nothing has changed. He expects everyone to cooperate to swiftly bring this investigation to a close.”

PIX 11 has learned Southern District of New York served Adams with subpoenas for potential evidence in an ongoing federal corruption probe into the mayor’s 2021 election campaign.

Retired FBI Agent Ken Gray said that development could signal the probe has reached an inflection point.

“By requiring documents text messages and other type of communications from the mayor this shows they are getting closer to building the case around the mayor,” Gray said.

Sources familiar told PIX 11 prosecutors are seeking more information for the case — including travel for the mayor, his aides, and others, as well as fundraising.

Sources said the requests could lead to new details relating to some mayoral aides, and others who worked with the Mayor, and on the Adams 2021 campaign.

PIX 11 has learned investigators are apparently looking into the opening of the new Turkish consulate in Manhattan amid allegations that Adams, or perhaps someone in his circle, pressed FDNY inspectors to grant occupancy at the consulate, in what has been alleged as an instance of quid pro quo dating back nearly three years.

The investigation will likely look into if the Mayor, his campaign, or those close to him, may have benefited.

Mayor Adams has denied repeatedly any wrong-doing — and addressed quid pro quo allegations before.

“We don’t do quid pro quo we follow the law,” Adams said. “Whatever they’re looking for, we’ll fully cooperate, and I’ll let them do their job without interference.”

Adams’ campaign attorney released a statement revealing that his defense team has carried out a parallel investigation that, so far, has “not identified any evidence of illegal conduct by the mayor,” and that, “to the contrary, we have identified extensive evidence undermining the reported theories.”

The probe has already led to FBI searches of homes belonging to at least three people who worked with the mayor.

As the investigation continues, Mayor Adams is moving ahead with his reelection bid, and is facing a growing list of challengers.
