QUEENS, N.Y. (PIX11) — An MTA bus driver allegedly left the scene after hitting and killing a woman blocks from her Queens home earlier this month, police said Friday.

Amesha Keys, 31, was crossing the street when she was struck by an MTA bus making a left turn onto southbound Bedell Street near Baisley Boulevard at around 8:35 p.m. on Aug. 6, according to the NYPD.

The woman, who lived on Baisley Boulevard, was rushed to the hospital but could not be saved.

Keys was a loving mother, daughter, sister, and friend, her grieving family said in a GoFundMe post.

“Her smile brought comfort and joy to all of those lucky enough to have experienced it. Her sudden loss has had a tremendous impact on both family and friends,” the post said.

The driver did not remain at the scene, police said. An MTA spokesperson told PIX11 News the driver passed drug or alcohol tests and has been suspended while the police investigation is ongoing.

“This was a tragic incident that took the life of a New Yorker. Our hearts go out to loved ones of the victim,” the MTA spokesperson said.
