NEW YORK, N.Y. (PIX11) — Celebrations will take over the city on Sunday for the annual India Independence Day Parade and Festival.

In its 42nd year the parade will bring more than 100 total marching groups and floats along with dozens of booths offering Indian cruise, clothes, jewelry and more. The day will top off with dance performances that express India’s cultural background.

The parade kicks off at noon on Madison Avenue starting at 40th Street and makes its way down to 23rd Street. Among some of this year’s special guests include Indian actors Sonakshi Sinha and Pankaj Tripathi.

Although marchers will make their way down Madison Avenue, multiple surrounding streets will also be closed for the parade at the NYPD’s discretion.
