NYPD body camera footage shows dramatic chase of stolen car suspect in Queens

CORONA, Queens (PIX11) — A rare look at a police pursuit for a stolen car suspect from start to finish from NYPD body camera footage on Sunday.

The teenage driver sped dangerously through a Queens neighborhood and ultimately scaled rooftops, leaving nowhere to run.

The NYPD Community Response Team members spotted a stolen car in Corona; the teenage driver, they say, was unwilling to surrender.

First, crashing into a family’s home on 99th Street and narrowly missing Carmen Guo’s 4-year-old daughter.

“My legs were shaking after. I was a little taken back by it,” Guo said.

The high drama unfolded near 34th Avenue and 99th Street on Sunday afternoon. As the 19-year-old lurched forward, an officer was hit and briefly pinned between two vehicles.

“Nothing short of heroic,” Deputy Commissioner Kaz Daughtry said. “He didn’t fire and kept calm.”

Keyah Richardson of Brooklyn led these highly trained officers on a relentless foot pursuit, going from the road to the elevated rail and, ultimately, onto rooftops.

“I saw the helicopters and everyone came at the same time, units all over,” said neighbor Angel Morrobel.

After scaling the No. 7 train, the suspect jumped onto a five-story building and backed himself into a corner. Police, all the while, refused to back down and clamped the cuffs on Richardson.

“I said that looked like a scene from a ‘Terminator’ movie,” Daughtry said. “[The sergeant replied] ‘I was so angry because he almost killed one of my officers.'”

Not to mention innocent bystanders like the Guo family.

“I was pretty upset thinking how my daughter could have been injured, and that would have been devastating,” the mother said.

Richardson is facing a litany of charges, including attempted aggravated murder and grand larceny auto. It is his first arrest, and he was awaiting arraignment in Queens Monday night.
