Last year’s Pride Month festival attracted an estimated 25,000 attendees, showcasing its position as one of the largest pride festivals in New Jersey.

Co-organizer Joseph Cameron told participants, “We celebrate every year to show everyone that we are here and to remember how quickly our rights can be taken away if we’re not diligent.”

Former New Jersey Governor Jim McGreevey, who resigned from office in 2004 amid an extramarital affair with a man, also spoke about how easily the Supreme Court can reverse rights the LGBTQ community may “take for granted.”

McGreevey tells PIX 11 News, “On one hand, I think America has moved forward, and we like to respect everyone’s perspective, but people have to understand that our rights, our privilege, our civil liberties should be entitled to the same protections as every American.”

The Festival runs from 1 pm to 9 pm on Saturday from Grove Street to Jersey Avenue along Newark Avenue.
