BROOKLYN, N.Y. (PIX11) — In the heart of East Williamsburg, Brooklyn, Land to Sea Cafe is not just serving coffee and pastries anymore – it is also showcasing art.

Co-owner Emily Shum is thrilled about the cafe’s latest venture, which features a group art exhibit titled “New Beginnings.”

“We also opened as kind of a third space. So we do a lot of community building events, including art exhibits,” Shum explained.

The exhibit features 20 Asian American artists from BUCK, a leading global design company.

Joyce Ho, one of the featured artists, shared her excitement.

“I feel very honored and grateful. My piece is called ‘8x8x8’ and I interpret the theme of the show ‘New Beginnings’ through a new body of work that was inspired by my Chinese heritage,” Ho said.

“This is actually our biggest exhibit yet,” Shum proudly stated. “It’s our summer exhibit. There’s silk printing, there’s some film, lots of prints and postcards as well.”

Shum noted that it’s the cafe’s largest showcase to date.

Having opened the exhibit two months ago, Land to Sea has already attracted a diverse crowd. The art has drawn visitors from beyond the local area, creating a buzz around the cafe.

“We get lots of people from even outside of Brooklyn or even outside of our general area come in to see the artwork. Friends of the artists, people that want to support their work. We also have some exclusive prints and postcards here that are for sale that have been really drawing people in,” Shum explained.

As the exhibit runs through the end of September, Land to Sea is already planning its future, buoyed by the excitement surrounding the artwork and the community’s support. Shum concludes with a note of success: “We had a lot of pieces sell already too.”
