SADDLE BROOK, N.J. (PIX11) — Barbara, of Saddle Brook, N.J., recently “spilled the tea” on a touchy subject being discussed in person and online.

It has to do with a stubborn rat problem, which she said is becoming more than a simple nuisance—especially after multiple rounds of street and property flooding.

“I have heard about the rat problem. I’ve seen it in Saddle Brook Moms on Facebook. I’m not really happy about it! Ya know,  family, kids, dogs. You’d like a clean environment. You’d like the officials to step up and take care of – some situations are a little bit mor dire than others. This can hurt people,” she said.

PIX11 News was told that Saddle Brook Mayor Robert White was unavailable to speak with us for this report.

Town hall officials directed PIX11 to a letter the mayor recently sent residents acknowledging an increased number of rat sightings.

The problem is serious enough Saddle Brook has asked its contracted pest control company to hold a rat prevention information session; it’s scheduled for next week.

In the meantime, rat prevention tips – for residents in Saddle Brook and beyond include:

    • Cleaning up vegetation and junk piles
    • Keeping your garbage cans tightly covered
    • Keeping your storage areas away from walls
