Village Halloween Parade announces catty theme of ‘Meow!’

EAST VILLAGE, Manhattan (PIX11) — Get ready to sharpen your claws and put on your ears for this year’s Village Halloween Parade .

The annual Halloween celebration invites festival-goers to embrace their inner cat lady for this year’s theme of “Meow!”

“Whether you’re a solitary soul or a playful spirit…we come together — quirks, claws, and all. So put on your whiskers and tails and join us as we dance in the moonlight,” said Jeanne Fleming, long-time Director of the parade. “After all, there’s a Cat Lady in everyone, just waiting to come out.”

Tony Award-winning actor André De Shields, who currently plays Old Deuteronomy in “CATS: The Jellicle Ball,” will fittingly lead the 51st Village Halloween Parade as its grand marshal.

This year’s spookfest will take inspiration from the classic Halloween icons: black cats and witches. Everyone is invited to march together in recognition of unique, unapologetic identities.

The Village Halloween Parade will haunt Sixth Avenue, from Canal Street to 15th Street, starting at 7 p.m. Oct 31. While no tickets are required to attend, those who want early access and the best views can buy VIP tickets online .

Those attending in their cattiest costumes can march in the parade by lining up at 6:30 p.m. on Sixth Avenue, south of Spring Street.
