NEW YORK (PIX11) – If you’re planning to drive into New York City, be prepared to pay the price.

Both the MTA and Port Authority have raised toll rates in 2023 and 2024 respectively for drivers entering the Big Apple. And, if you don’t have an E-ZPass, you’ll be paying more .

So what’s the most expensive toll in New York City?

The most expensive toll, if you have an E-ZPass, is $15.38 for cars during peak hours on the Lincoln and Holland tunnels, the George Washington, Bayonne and Goethals bridges and the Outerbridge Crossing, according to Port Authority. That toll is only charged when you enter New York City, not when you exit.

If you don’t have an E-ZPass, you’ll be charged $17.63 on all Port Authority bridges and tunnels.

The Robert F. Kennedy, Bronx-Whitestone, Throgs Neck and Verrazzano-Narrows bridges and Queens-Midtown and Hugh L. Carey tunnels cost $6.94 one-way with an E-ZPass. You will also be charged to exit the city, so going both ways on these MTA-owned bridges and tunnels will cost $13.88.

Without an E-ZPass, you could be charged $11.19 each way. If your E-ZPass isn’t mounted correctly , the MTA will charge you $9.11 each way.

At one point, it cost $19 one-way to cross the Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge.

But these tolls aren’t even the most expensive in New York state. The most expensive toll in New York is believed to be on the Whiteface Veterans Memorial Highway, according to a study from BestPass .

The initial cost of the toll is $20 but can increase depending on how many passengers you have, according to Whiteface Mountain’s official website .

Congestion pricing was expected to make driving into New York City even more expensive, costing $15 to enter Manhattan’s Central Business District. The plan was paused by Gov. Kathy Hochul earlier this year.
