MANVILLE, N.J. (PIX11) — Inside Dom Ahorrio’s Manville garage is where police go pink.

“It’s a very tedious job you have to do,” said Ahorrio, owner of Maximum Tint & Sound. “I love doing it. When I wake up in the morning I love coming to work.”

He is the artist behind a Somerset County police tradition.

“8 years ago, through this very shop here, the first car was wrapped in pink,” said Somerset County Prosecutor John P. McDonald. “It was from Franklin Township, and it’s grown over the years.”

The Prosecutor’s Office is soon going to unveil pink police cars from different departments around the County.

Cruisers from Warren, Watchung, Far Hills, Peapack, Gladstone, Montgomery, and the Prosecutor’s Office are getting the pink treatment this year. Corporate sponsors are funding the vehicle wraps, with no taxpayer money being used.

“It’s very important to the community,” said Guy Torsilieri, chairman of the Far Hills Race Meeting, one of the program’s sponsors. “We’ve given over $20 million to healthcare in the region.”

The pink cruisers are known to appear at the Far Hills races, known as The Hunt, which returns October 19th.

“The more participation we get, the more we can give back to the community,” said Torsilieri.

The cars will be publicly unveiled in October for breast cancer awareness month.

“The cars are so effective,” said Deirdre Blaus, Chief Administrative Officer at RWJ University Hospital Somerset, another sponsor of the program. “They grab your attention and hopefully will be another reminder for women to take care of themselves.”

“Any small part that we can play in that, I think it puts our office in a very good light and puts our County in a very good light,” said McDonald.

You can't just use a pink badge decal instead of wasting money to wrap the entire thing in pink for women's breasticle cancer awareness month?
