BROOKLYN, N.Y. (PIX11) — An armed man was apprehended following a fare evasion at a subway station in Brooklyn Tuesday morning, according to the NYPD.

The gun was located in the man’s possession during the investigation, police said.

Interim NYC Transit President Demetrius Crichlow released a statement following the arrest:

“Once again, it’s clear that when criminals take transit, they don’t pay. We are grateful to NYPD officers for stopping a fare evader at a subway station near Prospect Park—who turned out to be a criminal that repeatedly preyed on riders, and who was carrying a loaded gun. Those officers make New Yorkers safer, and help all of us feel safe on the subway.”

Submit tips to police by calling Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477), visiting crimestoppers.nypdonline.org , downloading the NYPD Crime Stoppers mobile app, or texting 274637 (CRIMES) then entering TIP577. Spanish-speaking callers are asked to dial 1-888-57-PISTA (74782).

At one time you would get 3 years in prison for carrying a loaded unlicensed gun. Now highly doubtful.
