NEW YORK (PIX11) – Tropical Storm Helene was expected to hit Mexico and Cuba on Wednesday as it tracked north toward the U.S., according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.

The storm could strengthen into a hurricane before it makes landfall, officials said. A hurricane warning is in effect for parts of Florida, where Helene is predicted to hit Thursday with heavy rain and damaging winds. Residents in 10 Florida counties were urged or ordered to evacuate ahead of the storm.
