    City Council passes bill to decriminalize jaywalking: What happens next?

    NEW YORK (PIX11) – Jaywalking in New York City could soon be legal.

    City Council passed a bill on Thursday to decriminalize it. NYPD officers issue hundreds of jaywalking tickets each year, the majority of them to people of color, city data showed.

    More Local News

    Over 90% of jaywalking tickets issued in 2023 were to Black and Latino pedestrians , according to city data.

    The bill now heads to Mayor Eric Adams’ desk.
