NEW YORK (PIX11) — New York City Mayor Eric Adams doubled down Monday on his intention to multitask by focusing on everyday city business while fighting an unprecedented federal bribery and corruption case .

“I’ve done nothing wrong. Time will prove that. And people will look back on this moment and say, ‘We’re glad we gave this man the opportunity to do the work he’s doing,'” said Adams.

The latest example was the mayor’s Monday afternoon appearance at the Queens Museum, where he discussed aqueduct infrastructure work for New York City’s highly-rated tap water.

Earlier Monday, Adams attended a graduation ceremony for the New York City Department of Sanitation. And he spent part of his Sunday in the pulpit.

Monday afternoon’s news conference regarding the quality of tap water ended, not surprisingly, with a short question and answer session.

Mayor Adams’ lawyer calls prosecution’s witness a liar with an ‘axe to grind’

“My legacy, and the legacy of the 300,000+ New Yorkers that inherited a city that was filled with COVID, 217,000 migrants and asylum seekers, uncertainty around public safety and many other things that we’re doing,” said Adams.

Still, there are outspoken skeptics, including New York City Public Advocate Jumaane Williams, who recently sat down with PIX11 News for an in-depth, wide-ranging discussion about the ongoing municipal crisis.

Williams is next in the line of succession to be mayor if Adams should decide to resign or be removed from office by New York Gov. Kathy Hochul.

“What angers me a lot is that I think the next generation of leaders, particularly Black and brown leaders, might have to pay for what is happening now,” said Williams.

    The mayor remains undeterred.

“The legacy is going to be clear. And the best picture of that legacy is when you all read my book. You’re not going to believe what life has been like for two years and 10 months. This is going to be a bestseller. Get that best bottle of wine that you have and those of you who are into cannabis, you can roll a joint and just sit down and read my book,” said Adams.
