EAST VILLAGE, Manhattan (PIX11) – A person struck a 68-year-old with a metal object in the East Village last week, and police are still searching for the suspected attacker.

The woman, 68, was walking on 14th Street between First and Second Avenues when a stranger came up behind her and hit her with the metal object, police said. The attack happened around 6:15 p.m. on Sept. 22, police said.

Police have still not caught the suspected attacker, who ran away. The 68-year-old woman did not get medical attention.

The NYPD in July said it would target crime in the East Village after a fatal stabbing on East 14th Street. Police set up cameras and streamlined responses between multiple precincts, officials said in July.

Submit tips to police by calling Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477), visiting crimestoppers.nypdonline.org , downloading the NYPD Crime Stoppers mobile app, or texting 274637 (CRIMES) then entering TIP577. Spanish-speaking callers are asked to dial 1-888-57-PISTA (74782).
