Free tours of Tarrytown Lighthouse in Sleepy Hollow offered in October

SLEEPY HOLLOW, N.Y. (PIX11) – Free tours of the historic Tarrytown Lighthouse in Sleepy Hollow will be offered in October.

Westchester County Parks is organizing the tours. They will offer a history of the lighthouse, which was built on the Hudson River in 1883.

The curator-led tours will be 45 minutes long and are limited to 24 people. Reserve a spot online here .

Here’s the upcoming schedule of the tours:

• Saturday, Oct. 5, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
• Saturday, Oct. 12, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
• Saturday, Oct. 19, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
• Sunday, Oct. 27, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

“Earlier this year, we completed a $3.4 million capital project to refurbish the Tarrytown Lighthouse in Sleepy Hollow to its most authentic rendition. I’m excited to welcome the public in, to view it and learn about such a tremendous piece of Westchester County history,” Westchester County Executive George Latimer said.

The Tarrytown Lighthouse was originally built to provide a guide for shipping on the Hudson River. It was decommissioned in 1961.

The Tarrytown Lighthouse is located in Kingsland Point Park off Palmer Avenue in Sleepy Hollow.

The lighthouse is a 10-minute walk from the parking lot along the Riverwalk path. There may be parking fees for visitors.
