    Man shot and killed on Bronx street: NYPD

    BEDFORD PARK, the Bronx (PIX11) — A man was shot and killed in broad daylight on a Bronx street Wednesday, police said.

    Kavon Reid, 40, of Yonkers, was shot in the chest and leg near East 198th Street and Bainbridge Avenue in Bedford Park at around 1:45 p.m., according to the NYPD. Reid was rushed to the hospital but could not be saved.

    It was unclear what prompted the gunfire.

    The suspect fled on foot on Pond Avenue after the incident, police said. There have been no arrests and the investigation is ongoing.

    The shooting happened in the area patrolled by the 52nd Precinct, where there has been a 135.7% spike in shooting victims this year compared to 2023, according to NYPD data. Shootings have also spiked more than 63%, the stats show.
