QUEENS, N.Y. (PIX11) — A Manhattan man was again convicted in the gruesome killing of a transgender woman in her Queens apartment 14 years ago, prosecutors said.

Rasheen Everett, 43, was found guilty of murder and burglary Friday following a two-week jury trial, according to the Queens County District Attorney’s Office. Everett was convicted in the same case in 2013 but a judicial error reversed the ruling in 2021.

“We are determined to seek justice for the victims and their loved ones, no matter how much time passes. Upon a reversal of a conviction through no fault of the prosecutors, my office
built a strong case against this individual once again and we successfully proved that he callously murdered a young woman 14 years ago,” Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz said.

On March 27, 2010, the defendant strangled 29-year-old Amanda Gonzalez Andujar to death in her Glendale home before dousing her in bleach, according to court records. He then left the home with the victim’s camera, keys, laptop, suitcase, coat, and cell phone.

Three days later, Andujar’s family found her lying on a bed with chemical burns across her body, prosecutors said. The bottle of bleach was found close by.

The medical examiner ruled the chemical burns happened post-mortem, and
that the cause of death was compression of the neck, according to court documents.

Everett was apprehended in Las Vegas in April 2010 after his DNA was found under the victim’s fingernails, authorities said.

The defendant faces 25 years to life in prison when he is sentenced on Nov. 11.
