NEW YORK CITY (PIX11) – Like many other Mets fans, Grimace took the No. 7 train to the Mets game at Citi Field Tuesday.
The Amazins sold out Citi Field for Game 3 of the National League Division Series against the Phillies. Given the crowd, fans were encouraged to take public transit to the game.
No one is as excited as McDonald’s icon Grimace, who has his own purple seat at Citi Field . Grimace threw the first pitch at a game over the summer and instantly became a Mets icon.
McDonald’s told the New York Times Grimace would take the No. 7 train at some point Tuesday, and around 1 p.m., a fully-wrapped Grimace train took off from Hudson Yards.
Earlier Tuesday morning, a Grimace decal was spotted on the side of a No. 7 train, waving with a smile and a sideways Mets cap.
Tuesday’s game is a sweet return home for the Mets, who have been on the road and continuously rained out for two weeks. And Queens is ready to celebrate. At 1:30 p.m., fans will gather for a pre-game block party. Gates open at 2:30 p.m.
The series is tied 1-1, and Tuesday will be the 16th matchup between the Mets and Phillies this season. The Phillies are up 8-7 in the season series.
