Huge illegal marijuana grow house found in Brooklyn neighborhood

MANHATTAN BEACH, Brooklyn (PIX11) — A huge illegal cannabis grow house was busted by the NYPD and the Sheriff’s Office.

It was discovered on a sleepy block a few houses away from a daycare.  Inside was a full scale grow house and packaging operation.

“It’s clear this is a distribution hub and grow house,” said NYC Sheriff Anthony Miranda.

Authorities took PIX11 inside to see the potential hazard.

Industrial strength heat lamps and HVAC systems powered the extensive grow house with three rows of 30 plants.

Packaging workstations lined the walls with untold amounts of chemicals to prepare and package the illegal cannabis. NYPD officials said they initially responded to the home Friday night following a 911 call about a family dispute.

The FDNY had to be brought in to ensure everything was safe, and it took a few days to mitigate the danger.

The Sheriff said no children were inside, but one adult was arrested as the investigation continues. He added that the property is believed to be a rental home with the property owner not necessarily involved in this illegal grow operation.
