BROOKLYN, N.Y. (PIX11) — Funeral services were held Thursday for a father who was shot and killed while sitting on a park bench in Brooklyn in September.

Davis was sitting on a bench near a playground with two friends when a gunman shot from afar , police said. Davis was shot in the head and died. The two other men were both injured, police said.

One of the victims who survived the shooting recounted the moment they were fired upon.

“I thought I was going to die,” said the 33-year-old victim, who did not want his identity revealed. He was hit in the torso and back.

The victim said he was walking his dog and stopped to speak with his friends sitting on a park bench before the shooting happened.

While police said it’s still unclear why the victims were targeted, they do have some leads. So far, no arrests have been made.

The 33-year-old victim said he and Davis had just landed new jobs in construction together. The man was in critical condition after the shooting but was released from a hospital and was able to attend funeral services for Davis.

Dozens gathered to say goodbye to Davis at Brown Memorial Baptist Church.

Davis was a father to an 8-year-old boy. His family said the two were inseparable.

Jeffrey Montgomery, Davis’ uncle, told PIX11 News his nephew was the kind of person who would give you the shirt off his back.

“Everybody loved him. He had a heart of gold,” Montgomery said. “He had so many friends.”
