    Uber driver’s car stolen on LI, suspect accused of drunk driving: SCPD

    NEW YORK (PIX11) – A man is accused of stealing an Uber driver’s car and drunken driving on Long Island on Sunday, according to the Suffolk County Police Department.

    It happened on Veterans Memorial Highway in Commack around 9 p.m. An Uber driver left his 2012 Honda Accord running in a parking lot while picking up a food delivery order when his car was stolen, police said.

    Joseph Ellis, 45, is accused of stealing the car and crashing it into a curb and a fire hydrant a short distance away. Ellis allegedly ran into a wooded area, according to authorities.

    Ellis was later found by a K-9 unit officer and his dog lying down in the woods, police said. He was arrested and charged with grand larceny and DWI.

    Ellis had nine outstanding warrants, according to authorities.
