NEW YORK CITY (PIX11) – With a potential Subway World Series around the corner, New Yorkers are spending big on the Yankees and Mets.

Leading up to the World Series, each additional home game during the NLCS and ALCS is expected to generate between $20 and $25 million for the city, according to the New York City Economic Development Corporation. It’s a hefty estimate that includes ticket sales, spending around Yankees Stadium and Citi Field, and earnings for seasonal employees.

All aboard! Mets and Yankees only 2 stops away from first Subway Series in 24 years

Both New York City baseball teams are just games away from a World Series run. The Mets are facing off against the Los Angeles Dodgers for the National League title, and the Yankees are taking on the Cleveland Guardians in the American League.

Tickets for the upcoming playoff games are in the thousands, with some spots reaching nearly $9,000, according to Gametime, a last-minute ticketing website. World Series tickets are going for thousands of dollars despite no matchup yet.

Optimistic sellers on eBay are already selling Subway Series 2024 gear like hats, pins and baseballs for top dollar. One baseball cap is listed for $100 ahead of a potential New York City duel.

Even without a Subway Series – which hasn’t happened since 2000 –  the playoff runs have already generated over $90 million in economic activity, according to the New York City Economic Development Corporation.

The National League Championship Series is tied 1-1 between the Dodgers and the Mets, with the next matchup starting around 8 p.m. Wednesday. The Yankees are up 1-0 in the American League Championship Series with another game Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.
