    Man killed, 3 injured when fire rips through Brooklyn apartment: officials

    BRIGHTON BEACH, Brooklyn (PIX11) – A man was killed and three others were injured when a fire ripped through a Brooklyn apartment early Wednesday morning, according to officials.

    The fire broke out in a second-floor apartment on Brighton 3rd Street in Brighton Beach around 3:40 a.m. At least 60 firefighters and EMS personnel responded to the scene, fire officials said.

    A man was killed and two others were hospitalized with burns to their hands and feet, according to the NYPD. A firefighter was also taken to a local hospital, the FDNY said.

    The fire was put under control by 4:30 a.m., fire officials said.

    Hazmat was requested at the scene due to the presence of a lithium-ion battery, according to the FDNY. It’s not clear if the battery caused the fire.
