12-year-old killed by falling tree in New Jersey

LAWRENCE TOWNSHIP, N.J. (PIX11) – A 12-year-old boy was killed when a tree fell on him in Lawrence Township, New Jersey on Monday, police said.

The boy and his friend were playing in his backyard along Eldridge Avenue when the tree was blown over by the wind, according to authorities.

Responding officers were able to free the child from under the tree, but he later died at the hospital.

The Lawrence Township School District said they will have counselors available to students and staff this week to help them work through their loss.
