NEW YORK CITY (PIX11) – Something sweet is coming for New York City’s commuters.

In October, Zabar’s is celebrating its 90th anniversary at the same time the New York City subway system celebrates 120 years on the tracks – and there’s a sweet treat in store for the patrons.

Between Oct. 24 and Oct. 27, morning commuters can get a bagel and schmear with a coffee from Zabar’s for $2.90, the same as their subway fare. Just a bagel and schmear will go for $1.20 and a bagel with cream cheese and lox for $9.90.

The deal will run during the morning commute, between 8 a.m. to 11 a.m.

If you can’t make it to Zabar’s, no problem. On Oct. 22, the MTA will hand out hundreds of black and white cookies to subway riders at four stations in the Bronx, Brooklyn, Manhattan and Queens.

“The number 7 train here at 79 St was the most important part of my life, it’s a fabulous place to get on the train and it’s close to Zabar’s,” said Stanley Zabar. “My father always said if you open a store within two blocks of a subway you become a rich store owner.”

More goodies will be given out via a sweepstakes on social media through Oct. 27.

Zabar’s is also selling 90-cent coffee throughout the entire month of October, a nod to its 90 years in business.
